Almost 85% of the $1-billion recruitment industry in India consists of small recruitment agencies, and much of the process across both online and offline businesses, take place offline.

Realising the opportunity in consolidating the otherwise fragmented market and bringing all these agencies onto a completely data-driven recruitment platform was what lead to the launch of Aasaanjobs.

Aasaanjobs is an end-to-end recruitment marketplace connecting employers, consultants and job seekers. “Our goal is to make hiring quick, easy and convenient for everyone involved,” says Aasaanjobs CEO and Co-founder Dinesh Goel.

This year, the company’s focus is to expand to a number of major cities across the country.
“We are currently present in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Delhi-NCR. We want to expand to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, and Jaipur,” says Goel.

So far, over 12 lakh job seekers have registered on its platform. “Over four lakh of these job seekers have been selected for some opportunity through the platform. If you take the most preferred job profile among job seekers, it is Sales and Business Development profiles. They are in abundance in all the major cities of the country,” he adds.

There are over 17,000 recruiters on the platform, and some prominent players include Amazon, ICICI Lombard, Burger King, and Tata AIA, among others.

When asked how the job portal is differentiating itself from others, Goel says, “Our competitors are predominantly focusing on selling or giving access to candidates’ database, while we are focusing on an end-to-end recruitment solution for clients. It is extremely difficult to digitise a completely offline process. Aasaanjobs is a digital recruitment marketplace. The company is trying to create the right kind of incentives for recruiters to ensure faster fulfilment for clients.”

“The proprietary algorithm rates recruitment consultants based on the volume and quality of line-ups. It also governs the allotment of new jobs and the payout made to them, exactly how it happens in the offline world,” he adds.

With too many layoffs in the IT industry, how does he look at the industry’s future? “It is definitely a challenging time for the industry in India, especially for mid-level employees, as a lot of automation in IT companies will gradually remove the need for these employees. They would have to consider reskilling themselves to stay relevant in the industry,” he explains. With an employee strength of 200, it has two offices in Mumbai, one each in Pune, Bengaluru, and Gurugram.

In January 2015, Aasaanjobs, in the seed round, raised $1.5 million from Inventus Capital Partners and IDG Ventures. Again, in the same year in November, it had raised $5 million in Series A round of funding, from Aspada Advisors, with participation from existing investors.
