'Act against guilty officials'

Last Updated 16 May 2017, 19:13 IST

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar charged that the Siddaramaiah government has not taken steps to fulfil its promise of taking action against all involved in illegal mining and the SIT has now arrested IAS officer Gangaram Baderiya as it had no other option after the Supreme Court directed it to complete the probe in three months.

Shettar told reporters here that action should be taken against all guilty officials. The state government is protecting corrupt officials and has neglected the case of Rs 5 crore cash found at the house of IAS officer Kapil Mohan, he charged.

The Congress government is blaming the Union government for everything, though the NDA government provided the highest amount for drought and flood relief works in the state, in the last 10 years. Funds to the states are provided as per guidelines and it is always less than the amount sought by the states. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should have attended Niti Ayog meeting to get the guidelines changed to get more funds, Shettar said.

He also charged that the launch of skill development programme on Monday was just a formality and the government is moving at a snail’s pace. “I am ready for a public debate with the chief minister regarding the details mentioned in the charge sheet  released by the BJP as it is based on the statistics of the government itself,” Shettar challenged.
