TCS 10K starts Cubbon Park Rejuvenation

Last Updated 16 May 2017, 19:54 IST

Over the past nine years, TCS World 10K has provided philanthropists with a platform to make generous contributions to various charitable causes associated with it. And the 10th edition too has been no different with over 40 organisations finding donors this year.

With almost Rs 4 crore being raised already, the organisers are hopeful of finding more donors ahead of the race day on Sunday.

This year, the race will see participation of 30 companies supporting over 200 charity fundraisers. Among these will be 17-year-old Ishana Sundar, a class 12 student who will be running to raise funds for Bala Mane and para swimmer Vishwas KS, running for Astha, an NGO.

Away from the individual NGOs benefitting, the World 10K will also kick-start the Cubbon Park Rejuvenation (CPR) Project.

The project, spearheaded by the India Cares Foundation, is a commitment to rejuvenate Cubbon Park with the help of Boime and Friends of Lakes, organisations run by conservationist and environmental activist Ramprasad Dasa.

The rejuvenation project will include dewatering and de-silting of six open wells in Cubbon Park, installing mesh covers on wells to prevent leaves and garbage entering the wells, providing a pump and required electrical and plumbing works for each of the wells. The project will also include digging of rainwater trenches to harvest rainwater to these bodies.
