Special officers to monitor water supply

They will conduct intensive inspection and sort out grievances related to water in their respective areas.

A decision to this effect was taken during a recent high-level meeting of the Board’s senior officers, a top source said. The existing engineers of BWSSB have been elevated to these positions. The officers who assumed charge on Ugadi will continue to hold the positions till the end of summer.

Increase in demand

This move was initiated by BBMP due to increase in new water connections. The number of connections now has reached six lakhs, an increase of one lakh in just one year, the sources said. The expansion of BBMP area has led to greater demand.

A key duty of the officers would be to report at service stations in their areas at 6 am on the water supply days. “Monitoring and control of water supplied through tankers will also form a key responsibility,” the sources added. 

In light of complaints from public regarding irregular timings adopted by valve men, the officers have been entrusted with the job of monitoring valve operations. 

A water-supply timetable created by the officers would be displayed at every service station for the convenience of the public. It is mandatory for the officers to interact regularly with the public in their allotted areas. Besides, the officers have to submit a report to the Chairman on a daily basis, on water supply in their allotted areas.
