CM for raising cap on quota

Last Updated 19 May 2017, 20:40 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday reiterated that he wants to raise the cap on reservation in employment and education to 70% from the present 50%.

The government is waiting for the social-economic census report (caste census). It will take an appropriate decision in this regard, he told reporters.

He claimed that migration of people to cities and towns in search of jobs has come down substantially as a result of the Anna Bhagya scheme. Though the state is reeling under drought, not many people are migrating, he added.

He, however, did not give clear reply to a question whether the government was planning to start English medium schools. Instead, he spoke about the medium of instruction issue. The Centre should convene a meeting of all the states and try to resolve the medium of instruction issue, he added.
