Let's get trendy

Last Updated 23 May 2017, 18:31 IST

Trends change in the blink of an eye these days. But there are some which remain eternal favourites while we are more than thankful to see others on their way out.

Take a look at the trends that are in vogue  and others that need to be booted out  from your closet.

Mules: One shoe trend we see really taking over in 2017 is the mule. Flat mules, low block-heel mules, heeled mules, sneaker mules, espadrille mules and in different materials like velvet, satin, canvas, and embroidery. They were big for 2016 and they will be even bigger for 2017.

Stripes: “Stripes are the equivalent of what a white t-shirt used to be back in the day,” says Roopal Patel, fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue. Big broad stripes or pinstripes, vertical or otherwise, have been a wardrobe staple. But let your imagination not be limited to a striped shirt or a pair of trousers. Have you imagined striped heels or even sun glasses with pin-striped frames?

Sneakers: They say you can never have too many sneakers and we agree. This versatile footwear will continue to be popular in the upcoming year. Glitter, leopard and satin updates to sneakers effortlessly dress up an outfit and give you a reason to buy multiple pairs. Here’s the down side though; that lovely pair of  classic whites will need revamping. White sneakers are old news in the  fashion fraternity this year.

Athletic wear: There is an attitude shift towards ‘easy elegance’ as we go into spring of 2017. International fashion runways saw a strong influence of sport or athletic- wear on prêt trends. Work wear is re-defining itself to mean not only power and personality, but also comfort and efficiency.

Skinny Jeans: Frankly, this must be said! Skinny jeans are over, give the distress a rest. So we enjoyed a good couple of years in ripped, lazy blue skinnies . It’s time for the trend to end before it becomes a faux pas. A huge change is
coming in the denim world. Stretch has reigned supreme for a long time but we see a shift towards contrasting denim styles in vintage silhouettes.

High Heels: Heels four to five inches or higher have been a trend that is rapidly dying. Women are now focused on comfort and practicality and prefer investing in a shoe that is both stylish and comfortable. This is why there has been such an increase in demand for sneakers and low block-heels.
