Proposal to restrict entry of vehicles to Cubbon Park

Last Updated 23 May 2017, 19:25 IST

Taking note of increased movement of vehicles at Cubbon Park, the Horticulture Department has chalked out a proposal to restrict the vehicles at some entry points to the park.

At present, the vehicles have access to the park from a total of seven sides. If the department's proposal is approved, then the movement of vehicles will be banned at Hudson Circle, Bal Bhavan and K R Market.

“There is dense traffic movement from Karnataka High Court towards UB City and from UB City to MS Building. However, it is difficult to find an alternative if these two routes are closed to traffic,” a department official said.

The officials said that the vehicular pollution increased in the last three months due to Nrupatunga Road development works undertaken by BBMP. Some birds have died due to increase in pollution level, they added.

Department commissioner P C Ray said the final decision in this regard will be taken by the Police Department.
