Local bodies directed to increase funds for education of SC/ST students

 Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that instructions have been issued to all urban and rural local bodies to increase the educational grant in the ratio of 60:40 in all the allocations ensured to SC/ST communities.

Speaking at a SC/ST grievances meeting held here at the deputy commissioner’s office, she said there is a complaint from Dalit communities on shortage of funds in the allocations made to the municipal corporations for the education of children belonging to SC/ST communities. Hence, a decision has been taken in order to overcome the problem, she said. The local administration has been directed to release the funds allotted in the ratio of 40% for the education of the students belonging to the SC/ST communities.

The social welfare officer Ramesh said the students who prefer to study nursing are offered financial assistance. However, this will be enabled following the online registration of the applications. It is a state-level selection process, he explained. The maintenance of Ambedkar Bhavan was also discussed in the meeting.

The complications pertaining to the DC Manna land at Mudduru survey number 163 was discussed and the assistant commissioner, the forest officer and the tahsildar assured that no encroachment has taken place. It was also stated that the land is not DC Manna land and hence, the Dalit communities leaders stopped the discussion on the issue. The leaders demanded comprehensive details on the available DC Manna land.

The deputy commissioner said that there was water tanker in Kukkunduru in Karkala which had severe leakage and the problem is set right. A proposal for the new tanker is submitted.

The ITDP officials assured that the irregularity in the Ashram School at Bannanje will be set right. The deputy commissioner directed an enquiry over the drainage at the BCM hostel in Kundapur taluk panchayat area. The issue of shifting the gas store house in Nadsal in Karkala was also discussed and the deputy commissioner ordered for a report submission on the same to the deputy director of Food and Civil Supplies department. The Excise officials informed the DC over the repeated raids conducted at Kedur, Jadkal and Mudur area against the illegal selling of liquor.

Dalit leader Vasudev Mudgal demanded justice for the sexual assault case on minor happened at Bidkalkatte and demanded a road for Hallihole. The leader also complained over the arrogance of the VAs and PDOs in Brahmavar and Barkur gram panchayats.
