Last Updated 26 May 2017, 18:34 IST

District-in-charge Minister A Manju took Education department officials to task for the district’s poor performance in the SSLC exams, this year.

Speaking at the KDP review meeting here, the minister held the teachers responsible for the poor results and directed the officers to provide a list of non-performing teachers. “The district, which was in 21st place in the list last year, has slumped to 31st slot, this year. Lack of quality education is the reason behind dismal performance in SSLC exam,” he said.

ZP CEO Venkatesh Kumar said that a workshop was held for school heads at the beginning of the academic year where they were directed to identify weak students and provide special coaching for an hour everyday. Notices were issued to 50 non-performing teachers, last year, he said. Manju said a teacher from Moraraji Desai Residential School has been suspended for poor results in II PU, this year.

Horticulture department Deputy Director Sanjay said that coconut growers in the district had incurred a loss of Rs 92 crore. A proposal has been submitted to the government seeking a compensation of Rs 42 crore. Arsikere MLA K M Shivalingegowda objected to this and said that a compensation of Rs 20,000 would be insufficient and suggested that the government must be urged to release more funds.

Replace old poles, Cesc told

With regard to the recent tragedy where three persons were electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire, Minister Manju told Cesc officials to take immediate measures to replace old electric poles. The officials will be held responsible if such incidents recur, he warned.

Discussions were also held on Akrama-Sakrama and distribution of seed potatoes. ZP President Shwetha Devaraj, SP Rahul Kumar and others participated in the meeting.
