NCP only party to take up EVM challenge

Last Updated 26 May 2017, 20:12 IST

After a huge uproar over “faulty EVMs”, Sharad Pawar’s NCP was the only party to take up the challenge thrown by the Election Commission to prove charges of tampering.

The AAP and the Congress, who were at the forefront of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) tampering controversy, sought to wriggle out of the challenge contending that the extensive terms and conditions laid down by the commission prevent the challengers to conduct a thorough tests of the voting machines.

The BSP, which was the first to blame the EVMs for its electoral loss, and the Samajwadi Party, showed no interest in the commission’s dare as the Friday deadline to send applications for participation in the challenge ended.

“The NCP has expressed interest in participating in the EVM challenge. The AAP and the Congress raised some issues regarding the existing framework of challenge but did not express their interest in participating,” a spokesperson for the commission said.
