Last Updated 31 March 2010, 19:43 IST

Hearing a petition by Thippasandra-based Bangalore Fish Produce and Processing and Marketing Society, Justice Nagamohan Das quashed the order and directed the State to renotify the tenders and re-grant it according to the law.

The petitioners, in their submission challenged the award of the tender and said according to the March 31, 1960 rules, fisheries tenders can be awarded only to those registered co-operative societies which deal with fisheries. The petitioner being one such society, it is eligible for such rights.

Further submitting that the BBMP has acted illegally and contrary to the rules, the petitioners sought to quash the tenders, which gave the fishing rights for two years.
