Master plan for 2031 to go before BDA board in July

Bosky Khanna, Bengaluru, DH News Service, Jun 2 2017, 1:18 IST

Citizens will get to scrutinise it in Sept, after govt approval

The much-awaited master plan reflecting the city’s growth in 2031 will be placed before the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) board in July and before the people for scrutiny in September.

“The master plan will be ready by the end of June or first week of July. After the government approves the master plan, it will be placed before the people for scrutiny, mostly in September. The draft will be sent to the government for approval and then people will be given two months’ time to file their objections,” said BDA town planner member Thippeswamy N K.

At present, work on the preparation of the base maps is going on and work on the land use maps is getting finalised. The BDA is preparing the master plan, estimating the city population to increase to two crore by 2031. It is also searching for vacant land to show in the master plan, to make space for more buildings. The BDA is in talks with the BMRDA to expand the city to the five townships.

Thippeswamy said there are procedures to be followed while preparing the master plan and until then, people cannot be allowed to give their opinions. After the master plan is placed before the BDA board for approval, it will be sent to BBMP for 45 days for its comments. Then, it will be sent to BMRDA. After this, it will go to the urban development department and cabinet for approval.

The BDA has already delayed the preparation of the master plan. Officials reason that the delay is because of the change in commissioner. The BDA was to complete the preparation of the draft master plan by March 2017. It has got an extension till July.

BDA officials say the order of the National Green Tribunal to maintain 75 metres of buffer zone around water bodies is also causing the delay. They are trying out plans for shifting the floating and outgoing population from the core area to the outskirts.
