A day after history-sheeter and former corporator V Nagaraj’s 14-day custody with the Hennur police ended, the Kengeri police on Thursday took him into their custody for eight days over one of the three cases of robbery filed against him, his two sons and three others in their jurisdiction.

Nagaraj, his sons Gandhi and Shastri and three other associates — Jayakrishna, Saravana and Soundharyaraj — were produced before a lower court which remanded them in the custody of the Kengeri police. The six men are accused of abducting a transport businessman, a mobile phone dealer and a realtor, and robbing them of Rs 8 crore in demonetised currency on the pretext of getting it legalised.

Three separate cases were registered at the Kengeri police station with regard to the robberies.

Chandrakumar, a transport businessman from Vijayanagar, knew Biappa, an associate of Nagaraj. On December 10, 2016, Biappa took Rs 2.5 crore from Chandrakumar by promising to get it exchanged for a 20% commission but went back on the promise. In the second case, Muniraju, a mobile phone dealer from Ullal, was abducted to a desolate place on Kengeri main road near Uttarahalli and robbed of Rs 1.75 crore in scrapped notes.

The third case was of Kalyan, a realtor from Nagarabhavi, who was abducted by Saravana and robbed of Rs 3.8 crore in old notes in Kengeri Satellite Town on December 28, 2016.
