IMD forecasts more rain in the next 2-3 days in Bengaluru

Last Updated 16 June 2017, 20:53 IST
The city on Friday afternoon experienced a sudden downpour with strong winds blowing at a speed of 53 kmph.

This, according to India Meteorological Department officials, is a feature of the south west monsoon. Till 5.30 pm, the city received 6 mm rainfall, while HAL airport recorded 21.6 mm and Kempegowda International Airport received 1.2 mm rainfall. Due to the strong wind and sudden downpour, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room received complaints of tree falls near Vidhana Soudha and in RT Nagar. BBMP workers were sent to these spots immediately to clear them to prevent traffic jams. Slow moving traffic was also reported in most parts of the city.

The cloudy sky and cool showers helped bring down the mercury.

The maximum temperature in the city at 5.30 pm was 28.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.6 degrees less than the maximum normal of 30 degrees Celsius.  The maximum temperatures at HAL and international airport were 29 and 28.8 degrees Celsius respectively. IMD officials have forecast cloudy sky coupled with strong winds, gusty at times, and rainfall for the next two to three days.
