No Congress leaders' names in 'diary', says Govindaraj

Last Updated 23 June 2017, 21:10 IST

Congress MLC K Govindaraj on Friday denied reports in a section of the media that he admitted before the Income Tax department that acronyms mentioned in a controversial diary were there of Congress leaders.

“I have nothing to do with any diary. I have already clarified it. So, the question of me admitting anything before the I-T department pertaining to any diary does not arise. Reports published in a section of the media in this regard are baseless,” he told reporters.

He said the I-T department has sent the diary that it claims to have seized from his residence to a forensic science laboratory. “It has been proved that the handwriting in the diary is not mine,” he added.

Congress MLC V S Ugrappa said vested interests are trying to tarnish the image of the Congress government. “What happened to Sahara and Birla diaries? What happened to a diary maintained by BJP MLC Lahar Singh?...An independent probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge will bring out the truth,” he added.

State Congress president G Parameshwara termed media reports on the issue rumours. “These are all rumours. He (MLC) has already submitted all the documents to the I-T department...I don’t know about statements made by him before the department,” he said.
