JOIN US In a suspected case of honour killing, a 22-year-old woman was burnt alive by her family after she married her lover against their wishes.
The woman’s father and brothers tied her to a cot before setting her on fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district.
Police officials in Moradabad said one person was arrested in connection with the incident.
Police sources said the woman, belonging to the Aonla Ghat area, married Sajid after a brief affair three years ago. Her family was vehemently opposed to the marriage and tried to talk her out of it.
The woman’s father Mashroof, her brother and a cousin forced their way into Sajid’s house in the same locality, having learnt that his family was away attending a funeral.
A case has been registered against 11 people, police said.
