District Youth Congress has strongly condemned Sri Rama Sene head Pramod Muthalik’s arrogant approach towards Pejawar Mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami for organising an Iftar party.

Sri Rama Sene district spokesperson Jayaram Amabekallu, meanwhile has said that the Sene would not lay siege to the Sri Krishna Temple or protest on Car Street. Instead, it has given a call for protest against the Pejawar seer.

‘Exceptional move’

Speaking to media persons, District Youth Congress president Vishwas V Ameen said that Muthalik has threatened to lay siege to Sri Krishna Mutt on July 2 and also protest against the pontiff’s decision to organise an Iftar party. “The move of the seer is exceptional and would go down the memory lane of not only the temple, but also the history of entire humanity. Muthalik, who is only known for spreading hatred among people of different religions, has no right to question the seer for the decision. Muthalik’s intention is only to create gap between caste and religion,” the president alleged.

“Udupi is known for its communal harmony and Muthalik, being outsider, should not interfere in its affairs. The communal clashes that are taking place in the neighbouring Dakshina Kannada have not even influenced the people in Udupi, who are always peace-lovers. The seer, who upholds the religious values of Hindu community along with the promotion of conservation of cattle, is indeed a reflection of humanity as he respects other religions and preaching,” explained the leader.

Ameen also condemned Muthalik’s remarks alleging that the Muslim community people are cow slaughterers and beef eaters. The country’s Constitution assures food right and one cannot be discriminated on the basis of the food habit.

He added that Muslim community people have contributed immensely to the Sri Krishna temple. They also share a cordial bonding with the temple and the Mutt since the time immemorial. Ameen said the Youth Congress demands Muthalik to apologise the seer in an open forum.

The president warned that the Youth Congress would form human chain if at all Sri Rama Sene under the leadership of Muthalik decides to lay siege to the temple or protest in front of any area in the temple city.

Statewide protest

Sri Rama Sene has declared that it would stage a statewide protest. In Udupi, it will be held at Clock Tower on July 2, said Jayaram Amabekallu.

Yuva Brigade head Chakravarthy Sulibele, meanwhile, supported the initiative taken by the Pejawar seer. After talking to the seer, Sulibele said the seer has taken the imitative with far-sighted plans. “The seer has gone a step forward in realising the Prime Minister’s slogan ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’. He has dedicated himself for the cause of Hinduism,” said Sulibele and urged a stop of the protest against the seer. He said Muslim community people should also respect the initiative taken by the seer and behave accordingly.

Hindu Jagarana Vedike district head Prakash Kukkehalli too said that seer has done nothing wrong by inviting the Muslim community people for Iftar. “However, the seer was unaware about the Namaz to be offered before ending the fast. If so, the seer would have done alternative arrangements. Moreover, no one can question the seer for his initiative,” he said.
