Man booked for remarks against Pejawar seer on facebook

Last Updated 29 June 2017, 20:26 IST
The Udupi police have registered a case against a Bengaluru man for posting objectionable and offensive remarks against Pejawar Mutt seer, Visweshatheertha Swami, on Facebook. The suspect has been identified as Vivek Kademani.

The police acted on the complaint lodged by three persons - Arif, Ansar and Ahmed - all members of the blood donation team formed by the seer.

Speaking to reporters in Udupi on Thursday, the seer said that apart from Muslims, some Hindus too consume beef and they should be convinced to give up the practice. He said that he has not hurt religious sentiments by allowing Muslims to offer prayers in the temple complex. The seer had organised an Iftar party on the temple premises last week.

“I have made my stance clear on the issue and won’t react further to Pramod Muthalik’s statement. There has been no disrespect to Hindu religion. Country stands to gain from harmonious relations between Hindus and Muslims,” he said.

Stir by right-wing

Meanwhile, some right wing groups have planned a protest on July 2 at Lalbagh Circle in Mangaluru against the seer hosting Iftar party. Karnataka Pradesh Hindu Mahasabha state unit spokesperson Dharmendra said that the Pejawar seer should tender an apology and step down. He said that the Muslims too should reciprocate by allowing Hindus to sing bhajans in mosques.
