JOIN USThree people have been arrested for assaulting a traffic policeman on duty on Saturday night at Battarahalli in KR Puram.
The suspects are Nadeem, Allu and Mubarak, all aged between 22 and 25 years, residents of Medalli. The incident occurred around 9 pm when a KR Puram traffic constable was on duty for drunk-driving check.
Girish, a meat stall owner, approached the police and complained that three youths were misbehaving with women and had blocked the road. Shivanand Rathod, the constable who was assaulted by the trio, told DH, “I went to the Battarahalli junction and the trio had parked vehicles in a haphazard manner, blocking the way of others. They were also passing lewd comments at girls passing through the junction.”
The constable directed them to clear their vehicles. However, the trio abused him and attempted to manhandle him. Rathod slapped Nadeem and directed him to clear the vehicles from the road.
“He (Nadeem) called his associates and within five minutes about 50 men gathered at the spot. I didn’t move out of the junction and I decided to face the challenge. A few people from the mob attacked me and tore my uniform,” he said and added that many people in the group were drunk.
Soon, other cops rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. Rathod lodged a complaint with the police who arrested the trio in the wee hours of Sunday.
Held on kidnap charge
The Hulimavu police have arrested a man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a garment factory supervisor. The victim, identified as Nandish, was in a relationship with a woman. According to the police, on July 2, when Nandish visited the woman’s house, three men dragged him out and bundled him into a car. The trio then assaulted him in the car with machetes and dumped him at a desolate place.
“Preliminary investigations show Nandish and one of the suspects were both in love with the woman. The woman was avoiding the other man. Enraged by this, the suspect planned to kidnap and assault Nandish,” a senior police officer said.
