Population explosion hindering progress, says ZP chief

Population explosion has become a huge hindrance for the development of India, Zilla Panchayat president Dinaker Babu has said.

“Rapid growth of human population is putting strain on environment. While developed countries continue to pollute the environment depleting natural resources, developing countries are under increasing pressure to compete economically. The rise in population has been adversely affecting industrial development,” Babu said here on Tuesday.

He was speaking after inaugurating a programme organised to mark World Population Day. The event was organised joinly by Zilla Panchayat, the district administration and the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Growth rate

He added that large population in India and its rapid rate of population growth was resulting low per capita availability of resources. People do not get sufficient quantity of food due to scarcity, which in turn affects their health and productivity. Low productivity brings down per capita income and thus leads to poverty. The massive growth in population is contributing for rising unemployment also, he added.

Delivering the special talk on the occasion, Dr Manoj Johnson emphasised on healthy lifestyle and the nutritious diet.
