Children unite with families through Aadhaar credentials
Their families were traced with the help of the Aadhaar cards. When the regional office of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) went on a drive to enrol the children living in orphanages, they could not enrol three children as they were found to be already registered with UIDAI. Upon further investigation, it was found that the three children had already registered their names with different addresses.
Narendra (20), who was also known as Monu, was suffering from intellectual and developmental disabilities. He came to the orphanage in May last year. Since he could not recall his original name, he was known as Monu in the orphanage. When the officials of the Bengaluru office contacted the Delhi regional officials, they traced the parents of Narendra with the help of the address and other credentials which were found to be matching through Aadhaar card.
Similarly, the credentials of Master Omprakash (20) was rejected as the biometric credentials were matched with Omprakash Prajapathi of Jharkhand. The officials could also trace Neelakanta (18), who had been registered with his earlier name Balaji Naik at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.
The Child Welfare Committee and Aadhaar officials helped to find the parents. The parents of Narendra were found in Jharkhand and arrangements were made for them to come to Bengaluru to get back their lost child. The parents of Omprakash and Neelakantha also came here to take back their children.
Shalini, DC, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, also accompanied the parents of Narendra. A senior police official said, “This reunion is truly a gift bestowed with the help of Aadhaar. Although we had published several notices regarding the missing information of these kids, since the regional language newspapers do not go to other states, the parents could never read it. But the registration in Aadhaar has helped us find their parents.”
