Minister George inspects signal-free corridor work

Minister for Bengaluru Development K J George on Tuesday directed the BBMP engineers to complete five underpasses, which are part of the signal-free corridor on Old Airport Road, within six months.

These underpasses are coming up at Wind Tunnel Junction, Suranjan Das Junction, Kundalahalli Junction, Hope Farm Junction and Big Bazaar Junction. RNS Infrastructures Construction Company is constructing the  grade separators. On Old Madras Road, an underpass and a flyover are coming up near NGEF Junction. These works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 216 crore.

George gave the directions during an inspection of the projects. He told the BBMP officials that a flyover at Hoodi Junction should be completed in a year. Speaking to reporters, he said these infrastructure projects will ease traffic congestion in a few months.

He added that the BBMP acquired land from NAL, HAL and some private individuals to build the signal-free corridor on Old Airport Road. Process is on to acquire some other pieces of land to complete the project, he added. Mayor G Padmavathi, who accompanied the minister, said the BBMP will take up the improvement of road and shoulder drains all along these projects.
