Telugu doctor couple died in chartered plane crash in Ohio, USA

In a tragic incident an Indian American doctor couple Kalapatapu Umamaheswara (63) and Sitha G Kalapatapu (61) were killed in a small-plane crash on Saturday in south eastern Ohio, USA. The couples were natives of Machilipatnam in Coastal Andhra Pradesh who migrated to USA decades ago.

According to information reaching here the Indiana based couple from were the only two people on their Piper Archer (PA28) plane travelling from Logansport Indiana to Parkersburg when the plane crashed into a retention lake in Beverly Village of Washington County.

Ohio state highway patrol said that Umamaheswara was the pilot of the ill-fated plane when the accident occurred around 10.36am Eastern Time. That was the time when the plane lost contact with the nearest air traffic control. After a search to trace the aircraft in nearby air ports and air fields the Washington County Sheriff said that the plane was found crashed in a retention pond near Waterford. The cause of the accident has been probed by Federal Aviation Administration.

Meanwhile the relatives of the doctor couple in Machilipatnam remembered them as very friendly who often visited the town to get in touch with their relatives. Dr Sitha is a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr Umamaheswara with similar expertise is an avid aviation enthusiast and a licensed pilot. Both graduated from NTR health university, Guntur in AP.
