Speaking at the book launch, ‘The Making of a Legend’ on Modi, Bhagwat said Modi had achieved a lot of things and a lot more would be done by him in the coming days. BJP president Amit Shah was also present at the function.
Bhagwat, said, "India has a lot of hope from Modi, who doesn’t believe that things cannot be changed or made happen. Rather, he believes and acts everything can be made possible or happen."
It was seen as the first full endorsment for Modi since his government undertook major economic reform measures like demonetisation and launch of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). It also came at a time when the government is under flak for the internal security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and reports of violence over controversies like beef in other parts of the country.
The RSS chief said that Modi was able to become a successful Gujarat Chief Minister and later the Prime Minister of India because of the “journey” he undertook in years before coming to power in the state and later at the Centre.
Bhagwat said, "Modi still follows the same lifestyle as India's PM, which he followed as an RSS worker and before becoming the Gujarat CM. It is not enough that one praises him for what he is today but must also realise what he was and how wedded he was to his ideals before he became PM."
Bhagwat said the people needed to understand Modi’s personality closely. “Today we are looking at Narendra Bhai because of his personality, actions and leadership. We need to read this character closely. When we talk of talk of a personality, one is what we see and the other that needs to be seen, with open eyes. A person is more accomplished when there is no difference in the way he appears to be and the way he is."
Acknowledging that Modi's "charismatic" personality could be attracting praise from people, the RSS chief said, "the magic is not because he attracts votes but because what he stands for. One must remember the goals before the country. People must read about it."
The RSS chief also urged the society to take up issues such as untouchability, as “there are many things that the government cannot do. The society would have to do such things on its own.”
Bhagwat said, “We have to take India to the same level as it was around 2,000 years ago." Praising the author of the book, Bindeshwar Pathak of Sulabh International, the RSS chief said, “Anybody can write about a character. But to write after fully understanding the character of the person requires special skill. I know that this is not the first written life-story of Narendra Bhai. A few small ones have been published earlier also.”
