Rajendra Cholan, Bescom managing director, promised on Thursday that there will be no power cuts in Bengaluru city or anywhere else in Bescom limits.

He was speaking at an interactive meeting organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Cholan said the peak load this year had gone down to 4,500 MW from 5,200 MW last year. “There is surplus power with us, but to ensure there is no shortfall, purchases have been planned. To ensure there are no technical issues in power supply, five-star rated transformers are being installed,” he said.

Cholan said Bescom, in another 15 days, will launch the first industrial service grievance redress centre in Vasanthanarasapura industrial area near Tumakuru.

“The centre will have a joint or assistant executive engineer, with 10 to 15 linemen and a vehicle. We have permission to set up 27 such centres in various industrial areas,” he said.

Cholan said Bescom consumers can, henceforth, apply for new connections online. They can also apply for line transfer and change of consumer name. Their work would be done within 24 hours.

The Bescom is also working on a mobile App for HT consumers, developed by Infosys. Consumers can check their bill details, hourly power consumption and even file complaints through the App. It will be monitored by director (finance) and director (technical). The App will be launched within a month, Cholan said.

He said a special team had been constituted to offer incentives so that industries buy power from Bescom instead of the open market. He said many slabs had been created - like consumers consuming electricity costing up to Rs 1 lakh or a cluster of industries and so on. A draft note was being prepared in this regard. It will be submitted to the heads of the energy department soon, Cholan said.
