Last Updated 16 July 2017, 20:04 IST

The farmers’ agitation seeking the waters of the Mahadayi river turned two years on Sunday. The agitators marked the day with a do-or-die resolution seeking the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the inter-state water dispute.

Veeresh Sobaradamath, Raitha Sene state president  said they were now expecting MPs, MLAs and the chief minister to strive towards finding a solution to the dispute. The farmers said they will continue their strike indefinitely at the same venue till their demands were met.

More than 5,000 farmers at the rally lifted their hands up and clapped to support the resolution. Leaders who addressed the gathering said the issue hangs in balance due to the lack of political will on the part of the leaders in the state.

A bandh-like atmosphere prevailed in the town during the procession taken out by farmers. Buses, including those to Hubballi, kept off the roads.
