Son of top IAS couple found dead in Mumbai

The son of a top IAS couple from Maharashtra was found dead before a high-rise building on Nepean Sea Road in south Mumbai’s Malabar Hill. Manmath Mhaiskar (22), the son of Milind Mhaiskar and  Manisha Mhaiskar, had fallen from the top of the building on Tuesday morning.

Though it is suspected to be a suicide, police are probing all possibilities. Manmath was found outside the Dariya Mahal building on the compound ground with severe head injuries. He was rushed to the government-run Sir J J Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on admission. The body was handed over to the parents after post-mortem.

Mhaiskar is the Principal Secretary in the Urban Development Department. The couple is said to be close to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Manmath’s last rites were performed at the Chandanwadi crematorium, where Fadnavis was present with his Cabinet colleagues -Water Resource Minister Girish Mahajan and Public Works  Minister Eknath Shinde. The funeral was also attended by top IAS and IPS officers.

The Mumbai Police have registered a case and is probing all possibilities like suicide, murder and accident. “Investigations are under way,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmi Karandikar, spokesperson for the Mumbai Police, said.

The Marine Drive police station received a call at 7.30 am with the information that an unknown person was lying in a pool of blood before the Dariya Mahal building and the person was rushed to the hospital. The police will record statements of Manmath’s friends in due course of time.
