The journey from a lawyer to an actor has been a smooth sail for Shraddha Srinath. She says that a career in acting was never on her mind, she always knew there was an actor in her, thanks to her stint with theatre.

As a practising lawyer, Shraddha recollects that she would work for eight to ten hours and later make time for rehearsals. After the successful run of ‘U-Turn’ and ‘Urvi’, she is now portraying the character of Ananya in ‘Operation Alamelamma’.

In an interview with Nina C George, Shraddha talks about the making of the film.

Did you always want to be an actor?

I never planned to be an actor. Theatre has been a part of my life since I was ten years old. I always found time to carry forward my passion for acting even while I was working. Films happened by chance.

What according to you, is the primary difference between stage and big screen?

Working in theatre is more about fulfilling your passion. There’s no fame, money or the concept of a hero or a heroine in theatre. Acting is a different ball game altogether.
But I understood that you need patience for both artforms.

What got you to sign ‘Operation Alamelamma’?

‘U-Turn’ and ‘Urvi’ were two serious subjects. I have the fear of being stereotyped, so I consciously chose a subject that is different from my previous projects. I found my character in ‘Operation Alamelamma’ very interesting and I always wanted to work with director Suni after I watched his movie ‘Simple Agi Ondh Love Story’.

Could you tell us more about your character?

I play Ananya who is a school teacher. Somehow, the person that she is and her profession don’t really match. Her life, in short, is full of contradictions.

Was it easy for you to get under the skin of the character?

I didn’t fit into the character at first. Ananya is a typical middle-class girl and a thorough-bred Kannadiga. With a little extra effort, I’ve managed to become that character.

We hear you share a great chemistry with your co-star Manish Rishi?

Yes, we do. In fact, our scenes together have become a talking point for those who have watched us act together. Rishi takes interest in every aspect of filmmaking. I also value his opinion on a lot of industry-related issues.

How would you describe yourself?

I believe in living in the moment and not in making plans. I am also curious about what life has in store for me.
