What's next for Kovind before he is sworn in on July 25

President-elect Ram Nath Kovind will have a busy schedule from Friday onwards, starting with an official briefing on his swearing ceremony scheduled for July 25.

Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha, accompanied by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Maharshi, will give him a presentation about the details of the swearing-in ceremony for the new President in the Central Hall of Parliament. Major General Anil Khosla, the military secretary to the President, will pay a courtesy call on the President-elect. 

A temporary President's Secretariat will be set up at 10 Akbar Road where Kovind is staying for the present. The President's Bodyguard, an elite household cavalry regiment of the Indian Army, will also take up position there.

This is the official bungalow of Union Minister of state for Culture Makesh Sharma, which was converted into Kovind's campaign office.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat will be briefing  Kovind on Saturday.  As the supreme commander of the armed forces, Kovind will familiarise himself with all aspects of the defence establishment including the nuclear command authority that is headed by the Prime Minister.

As for the swearing-in ceremony on July 25, Kovind will first leave for Rashtrapati Bhavan from 10 Akbar Road at 10.15 am.

He will be escorted by the military secretary to President to Rashtrapathi Bhavan where he will meet outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee for the first time since his election.

Mukherjee and Kovind will have a one-on-one discussion on important files and policies related to defence, external affairs and finance.  After which, Mukherjee and Kovind proceed to Parliament building.

Both the leaders will be escorted into the Centrall Hall of Parliament by the Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister, Vice President and the Speaker of Lok Sabha. The Chief Justice of India will adminster the oath of office, which is to be completed in 14 minutes.

Once the ceremony gets over, Kovind moves into the Rashtrapati Bhavan as India's 14 the President. Mukherjee will move to 10, Rajaji Marg residence that has been allotted to him.
