People offered ‘Pitru Tarpana’ to their forefathers, at Swamy Ayyappa Temple and Guhya Sri Agasthyeshwara Temple in Siddapur on Sunday, on account of the auspicious ‘Bhimana Amavasye’, the New Moon Day of the Karkataka month of the solar almanac.

The day is when tributes are offered to deceased forefathers. It is, however, observed in various ways in different parts of the nation.

“In Siddapura region, the day is observed as ‘Karkada Vavu’ by Malayalam-speaking community. The ritual of giving offerings to forefathers was done on the banks of River Cauvery.

“It is believed that the offerings will please the forefathers who will bless their descendents with good health and wealth”, said Kairali Samaja president K K Srinivas.

Guhya Agasthyeshwara Temple priest Umashankar Bhat and Ayyappa Temple priest Gopinath led the rituals.
