The Opposition on Tuesday created ruckus in the Lok Sabha over cow vigilantes and incidents of lynching in the name of cow protection, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House.

"So, you don't want the House to function. It is Okay. I am adjourning the House to allow members and ministers participate in the oath taking of the 14th President and other ceremonies," Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said, adjourning the proceedings till 3 pm.

The Speaker had to adjourn the proceedings to enable members attend the oath taking ceremony of President Ram Nath Kovind which was scheduled to be held at 12.15 pm.

As soon as the House assembled for the day and the Question Hour began, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of cow vigilantism and the "repeated" incidents of lynching in the name of cow protection.

“Madam, the ex-Chairman of the ISRO (UR Rao) has expired. Therefore, condolence should be expressed in the House,” the Congress member also said, amid disruptions.
Kharge had given a notice to adjourn the Question Hour.

Mahajan, however, refused to allow Kharge's notice, saying there was no rule for it.
Incidentally, the first question to be take up in the House was "whether it is a fact that 99.19 per cent cows and 99 per cent oxen are productive in the country."

The question, however, could not be answered by the Minister concerned as the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the Lok Sabha, amid noisy protest by the Opposition.
