Rainfall activity likely to decrease, predicts IMD

Last Updated 26 July 2017, 20:56 IST

The southwest monsoon is set to enter into a break phase from Thursday onwards in most parts of the country, except the foothills in north India, the India Meteorological Department has forecast.

“The break period in which rainfall would be substantially less is likely to continue for about a week,” M Rajeevan, secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences, told DH.

“In the week between July 27 and August 2, the rainfall activity is likely to decrease compared to the previous week. Overall, rainfall activity is likely to be below normal over India,” IMD said.

The foothills in north India, the National Capital Region and parts of Rajasthan may get some rain, but not the rest of the country.  The break period comes at a time when Gujarat and Rajasthan are witnessing flood because of excess rainfall.
