‘Words cast spells, that’s why it’s called spelling,’ goes a famous proverb. Young word wizards wove magic through their words at the DH in Education’s inter-school spelling bee competition held here on Wednesday.
The event began with a laughter yoga session by Rangalakshmi Srinivasa.
The competition was a melange of correct spellings, anagrams (a word, phrase, or name formed by rearranging the letters in another), kangaroo words (a word that contains letters of another word, in order, with the same meaning) and visual questions. The audience also had a chance to attend the questions at the event.
Abhinav G, a class V student, was one of the many students who participated in the competition. A student at Deccan International School, Abhinav regularly participates in such competitions that help him become a word wizard. “It’s the first time I am participating in this event and I really enjoyed the perfect balance of easy and tough questions,” he said.
Prof Arul Mani, the host for the evening, struck a chord with children for his calm demeanour.
Aishwarya J Shah, a student at Achala Vidya Mandir and a participant, said: “The competition was a little tough but was immensely exciting in the way the questions were asked. I thoroughly enjoyed the event and look forward to participating again next year.”
