Last Updated 06 August 2017, 18:17 IST
With bountiful rains in Kodagu region, Hogenakkal falls at Hanur, Chamarajanagar district, has regained its glory and has been attracting a large number of tourists from both Karnataka and Tami Nadu.

The water here falls from a height of 70 ft with great force. There are around 36 falls creating a panoramic view.

Expert boatmen ferry tourists in coracles in the gushing waters towards the waterfalls giving one the much needed adrenaline rush.

A few fishermen too have been displaying their expertise by dextrously turning coracles near mobile petty shops that sell cool drinks, chips and snacks to tourists.
Its business again for women who sell fried fish on the boulders. Though the district had not received sufficient rains, the gushing Cauvery river has brought hope for people here this year.

A few months ago visitors had been dwindling with no water in Hogenakkal. Small time vendors of the nearby villages whose life depends on river Cauvery were totally affected as there were no visitors.

Hogenakkal, is around 48 kms from Male Mahadeshwara Hills, located on the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border. Cauvery originates in Kodagu and Hogenakkal is the gateway to Tamil Nadu.

Basic amenities

With hundreds of visitors thronging Hogenakkal over the weekends, a lack of basic amenities has become a big problem here. There are no proper bus services to Hogenakkal nor are there guest houses and restaurants to cater to the needs of visitors who hope that the tourism department makes necessary arrangements to address these issues.
