Rain resumes after lull, TB dam, KRS receive good inflow

Tungabhadra and Krishnaraja Sagara reservoirs in Ballari and Mandya districts respectively have received good inflow in the past 24 hours following copious rain in their catchment areas.

Tungabhadra dam near Hosapete on Sunday received 6,043 cusecs. It was 4,757 cusecs on Saturday. The outflow on Sunday was a meagre 20 cusecs. The dam, lifeline of Ballari, Koppal and Raichur districts, received over half tmcft water in the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Sunday). The storage level in the dam stands at 42.204 tmcft against 39.589 tmcft during the corresponding period, last year. The maximum storage level at TB dam is 133 tmcft, including 30 tmcft of silt deposit.

With good showers in Cauvery basin, the inflow to the Krishnarajasagar (KRS) reservoir increased on Sunday, reports DHNS from Mandya. The inflow which was 4,651 cusecs on Saturday increased to 11,711 cusecs by Sunday evening. The outflow is 4,067 cusecs. The water level in KRS, as on August 6, is 91.50 feet.

Rain resumed after a brief lull in Mandya and parts of the district on Sunday. Mandya town experienced good rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, on Sunday. Showers pounded Maddur town for more than two hours, leaving several roads and localities waterlogged. Koppa, Besagarahalli, Kesturu, Bharathinagar and parts of Malavalli taluk too received good rain.


Hema water released

Meanwhile, the JD(S) workers ended their 10-day protest after Hemavathi dam authorities released water to Right Bank Canal on Sunday. Responding to former prime minister H D Deve Gowda’s plea, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the dam authorities to release 1 tmcft water to canal. On Sunday, about 600 cusecs of water was released to the canal, bringing smiles on the faces of the distressed farmers of the region.

A large number of JD(S) workers and farmers, on Sunday, took out a 12-km-long padayatra to Gorur dam and offered bagina to the right bank canal.

Kodagu district received light rain. There was moderate rainfall in Napoklu and Bhagamandala experienced moderate rainfall.

The sky remained overcast in Shanivarasanthe, Somwarpete  and Kushalnagar.
