The officials have issued a stern warning to the residents of the city to get their water connections regularised or face disconnection, as the MCC has launched a drive to identify illegal collections and also collect outstanding water bill.

A team of officials, led by MCC Commissioner G Jagadeesha, Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Executive Engineer Anand, launched a drive to identify illegal water connections in the city, on Monday morning.

The team conducted a raid at KG Koppal in the city and disconnected water supply to a few houses, which had illegal connections. According to officials, there are more than 100 illegal water connections in the area. To their surprise they found that many residents have not paid water bills for years.

The authorities have set a 15-day deadline to regularise illegal connections, and clear the pending water bills to continue enjoying uninterrupted water supply.

According to officials, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Corporation (JUSCO), which was managing water supply in the city a few years back, had provided connections to every house but, the residents failed to legalise the connections by submitting the documents to MCC. Even a few residents, who had submitted documents did not pay the water bills on a regular basis.

It may be mentioned that in December 2016, MCC had launched a massive drive to identify illegal connections and also to collect pending bills as the total bill exceeded Rs 100 crore. As many as 11 vehicles, with four MCC staffers each, had travelled across 65 wards in nine zones.
