Elephants Lily and Rita at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BPP) were treated to watermelon and banana cakes on World Elephant Day on Saturday. Elephants in the safari too were fed ragi, rice, coconut, soyabean, horsegram, jaggery and mineral mixtures with green grass along with their daily diet.
BPP also screened a movie on elephants’ social behaviour to create awareness about the threats faced by the endangered species. Lion-tailed macaque Renuka, who turned six on Friday, too was celebrated.
