Demanding resignation of DKS and Jarkiholi, BJP plans protest on Aug 18

IT raids have unearthed their corrupt deeds; rath yatra planned next, says MP Shobha

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday said that BJP will stage a state-wide protest on August 18, demanding the resignation of both Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and Small Scale Industries Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi whose houses were raided by Income Tax department.

Karandlaje said following the recovery of huge amount of cash and gold and documents related to their assets, it is established that both are corrupt. Hence, the duo should be dropped from the cabinet. Blaming the state government for derailing Pradhan Mantri’s Fasal Bhima Yojana, Karandlaje said that there is no clarity on insurance companies, while the companies have been sitting pretty on the profits earned through collection of premium amount. The insurer farmers continue to suffer.

Taking cognisance of farmers plight, a meeting of officials was conducted recently, directing them to take action on paying the assured amount to beneficiaries, she added. Trading allegations against the state government, Karandlaje alleged that the state has misused Centre's funds. She urged the government to come out with details on checks and balances with the Centre releasing Rs 2.09 lakh crore to the state in last three years.

The MP warned of cancelling the licences of the gas agencies that seek money for connection under Ujjwala scheme. It has been intended to provide gas connection to 52,000 families in the district, she added.

She said she has requested Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to convert the district roads in Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Kodagu and Shivamogga coming under Western Ghats to concrete stretches. Karandlaje said all roads in Malnad should be converted into concrete. Preparations are on to invite tenders to concrete Kadur-Chikkamagaluru-Mudigere road (NH 173), while Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared for Bilikere-Belur-Chikkamagaluru Road.

Following a call by party national president Amit Shah, it has been planned to take out a ratha yatra in the state in coming days. Shah has instructed to reach out to people in booth level.

Coffee Board chairman M S Boje Gowda, BJP spokesperson Varasiddhi Venugopal, ZP president B S Chaitrashree and councillor H D Thammaiah were present.
