Residents stranded as sudden rain lashes city

Residents were caught unawares by the downpour in the city on Wednesday evening. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city received 25.8 mm rainfall, HAL airport recorded trace rainfall and Kempegowda International Airport received 18.8 mm. It started raining at 8 pm and continued till 8.45 pm.

In just 45 minutes of rainfall, flooding and traffic jams were reported in most of the central business district areas. Traffic policemen were seen clearing the overflowing sewage at Shivananda Circle. A tree was uprooted here and BBMP authorities got it cleared to make way for traffic.

Flooding was also reported near Chinnaswamy Stadium on MG Road. Waterlogging and snail-paced traffic was reported also at Kamakshipalya, Majestic and surrounding areas. The IMD has forecast rain coupled with thundershowers for the next two days.
