Deepa, the niece of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, and her brother Deepak on Friday said that AIADMK government cannot take any decision on their own to convert their aunt's Poes residence into a memorial without consulting them.

The duo claimed that they were the Jayalalithaa's blood relations and that her Poes Garden residence belonged to them.

Opposing the state government's plan to convert Jayalalithaa’s residence into a memorial, Deepa said she would take legal recourse against the ruling AIADMK's move.

"Legal notice should`be given, if government wants to take over an individual property", Deepa said.

However, Deepa's brother Deepak said though he and his sister may willing to give their aunt's property for memorial, the government shall follow the procedure established under law before taking over the house.

"Myself and my sister Deepa are the only legal heirs under the Hindu Succession Act", Deepak added.

Reacting to the statement, Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam said the heirs of the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalithaa would be given proper compensation before the house is converted into a memorial.

"Decision was taken after going through all the legal procedures. Adequate compensation will be given them", the minister added.
