The much-awaited merger between the two warring factions of the AIADMK on Friday turned out to be a damp squib.

Nothing emerged after four hours of hectic discussions at the AIADMK (Amma) camp, chaired by O Panneerselvam (OPS).

The ruling AIADMK faction led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, too, held talks with senior ministers on accommodating the members of the OPS group in the Cabinet and offering them party posts. But the meeting was inconclusive. Ministers left

Palaniswami’s residence around 9.15 pm, after nearly four hours of deliberations.

The merger was expected to kick-off at the memorial of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, which was decorated with flowers.

As the tie-up between the two groups did not happen, many MLAs and senior cadres, who had gathered at Jayalalithaa’s memorial, were visibly upset and disappointed.
