The Expert Committee on Preventing Sexual Violence against Women and Children has decided to recommend to the state government to bar entry of public into government schools that are short-staffed.

This comes after the panel inspected the government school in Magadi in Ramanagaram district, where a 53-year-old teacher K G Sunanda was recently set ablaze by her husband who managed to gain entry into the classroom during working hours.

The school, the panel found, had only two teachers with a strength of 22 children from Classes 1-5. The panel will also urge the government to ensure that no person enters an educational institution without the prior permission of headmaster or principal, its chairperson and MLC V S Ugrappa said.
