UP witnesses 'missing posters' war

Last Updated 19 August 2017, 12:40 IST
Uttar Pradesh, it seems, has been witnessing a 'missing poster' war though it is not clear, who are the warriors.

Close on the heels of the appearance of 'missing' posters of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president her son Rahul Gandhi in their Parliamentary constituencies of Raebareli and Amethi respectively, missing posters of prime minister Narendra Modi have appeared in his Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi.

According to the sources, several such 'missing' posters were pasted on the walls of the buildings in the Kutchery area in Varanasi town on Friday night.

The posters, which did not carry any name, quoted lines from a 'ghazal' sung by acclaimed 'ghazal' singer Jagjeet Singh. ''Jane woh kaun sa deshjahan tum chale gaye'' (one does not know to which country have you gone), the posters, which carried a picture of Modi, said.

The administration swung into action immediately after spotting the posters and had them removed, sources said. The officials said that they were trying to find out, who were behind the posters. Modi had last visited his Lok Sabha constituency in March this year during the campaigning for the assembly polls in the state.

The local BJP leaders said that the posters smacked of a conspiracy.

Earlier such posters had appeared at Raebareli and Amethi for Sonia and Rahul. The posters also declared a reward for whosoever ''traced'' them.

The Congress had then alleged that it was the conspiracy by the BJP though the latter denied having any hand behind them.
