Man kills alcoholic brother

Frustrated with his addiction to liquor, a construction worker stabbed his younger brother to death at their house in JJ Nagar on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh (22). Police said that he was harassing his mother Nallamma and brother Nagaraj for money to buy liquor. Both have been arrested.

Ramesh assaulted 1Nallamma when she refused to give money to him. He attempted to stab her with a knife. Nagaraj overpowered Ramesh, snatched the knife and stabbed the latter repeatedly. On hearing screams, neighbours rushed to their house and alerted the police.

Chain snatchers arrested

The Vijayanagar police arrested three chain snatchers and recovered gold valuables worth Rs six lakh from them. The arrested were Syed Musaddiqh (25), Sharukh Khan (25) and Mohammed Saleem.

According to police, the trio on two bikes attempted to rob a woman near Club Road in Vijayanagar on August 9 and were caught by the public when the victim raised alarm. However, before they were handed over to the police, the three managed to escape.

Vijayanagar police has registered a complaint based on a complaint lodged by a passerby. They verified CCTV footage and tracked down the suspects. The police said the suspects were habitual offenders and were imprisoned earlier. They were released on bail recently.
