The Information and broadcasting Ministry has reconstituted the steering and technical committees for the upcoming International Film Festival of India in Goa that begins on November 20.

Multiple national and international award -winning Assamese director Jahnu Barua is made the convener of the 13-member steering committee for IFFI-2017, while actor-director Nagesh Kukunoor –better known for his work in parallel cinema like Hyderabad Blues- has been appointed chairperson of the 12-member technical committee for the festival.

An I&B Ministry press release late on Friday also said Kukunoor has also been made member of the steering committee.

I&B Minister Smriti Irani ordered the reconstitution of the two committees. Newly-appointed chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Prasoon Joshi, filmmaker Anand Gandhi, BJP leader and actor Vani  Tripathi were inducted as members in the steering committee among

A news agency report said the Ministry had earlier deferred the meeting of the preview committee to select the films for the festival, amid reports that Irani may dissolve the group.

The 21-member preview committee, which reviewed over 150 films in the first phase of the screening process that began in July-end, was to meet on August 17 for the second round, a source said.

"We got a mail from the Directorate of Film Festival stating that the next round of screening will be delayed due to technical reasons," the news agency quoted a member of the committee as saying.
