The actress who recently won her first National Award, was missing from the big-budget flick’s promos and was noticeably absent at the Cannes Festival, where the film’s first look was unveiled by Hrithik and his Mexican co-star.

But the actress is sure to impress the audiences with her moves, says Soparrkar, who choreographed the film, which revolves around a salsa dancer played by Hrithik.
“Kangana will surprise everybody with her performance. We have all seen her in these psycho-type roles, but she is a natural dancer. I choreographed two songs with her and Hrithik and she really proved to be a match for him and we all know how good a dancer he is,” said Soparrkar.

The choreographer, who has worked with some of the biggest names in the world of entertainment including Madonna and Britney Spears, said that even he was surprised by Kangana’s absence from the promos of Kites.

“She plays an important character in the film and it is not a blink-and-miss role. I am sure the producers and director have planned something out as they know how to best publicise their film,” said Soparrkar. The dancer who was a part of the star-studded cast of the Oscar nominated film Nine, choreographed the mega-budget film, alongside Farah Khan.

“Kangana pushed herself hard because she knew that she will be compared to Hrithik and she was a bit stressed out about it too. I did not get to see Barbara dancing as Farah choreographed her,” said Soparrkar who believes that the film, directed by Anurag Basu, will break new ground in Bollywood.

“There are not many films in Bollywood history which revolve around dance. But dance is a central part of the plot and storyline of Kites and not just a colourful distraction squeezed in the middle. We have infused salsa, bachata, hip-hop and street jazz in the film,” said Soparrkar, who danced alongside the likes of Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren and Marion Cottilard in Nine.

The dancer who had grabbed international headlines after being linked to pop princess Britney Spears, married long-time girlfriend, model Jesse Randhawa last year and is now preparing to embark on a world tour with his wife.

“I have a global tour coming up with shows in New York, Chicago and London. People are surprised when they see an Indian ballroom dancing. But Bollywood is going big abroad and people need to know that the country is not just about buffaloes and snake charmers,” said the dancer who won the European Ballroom Champion for nine years with his partner Ewa Maria.
