A 34-year-old wife of a software engineer committed suicide after killing her two daughters at her house in Murphy Town on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Renuka (34) and her daughters Nischitha (6) and Pavani, a 10-month-old baby. Police said that Renuka hailed from Chitradurga and was working as a laboratory assistant at Chinmaya Hospital in Indiranagar.

She was married to Hemanth Kumar, a software engineer in 2010. Financial trouble and marital rift are said to be the reasons for her extreme step.

Renuka, in a purported death note, has said that she was responsible for the deaths. She has requested her family members to conduct last rites in Chitradurga and to meet the expenses by withdrawing money from her bank account.

The couple, their children and parents of Kumar were residing together. Kumar had been to office on a night shift when Renuka hanged Nischita from the grill of a window in her room. She hanged Pallavi from the ceiling fan and used the same rope to commit suicide by hanging from fan, the police said.

Kumar returned home around 4.45 am and worked till 6 am. Renuka did not come out of her room even after 8 am and he called her on her mobile twice. Since there was no reply, Kumar entered the room only to find the three hanging.

Renuka’s mother Susheelamma alleged that her daughter ended life owing to torture by her (Renuka’s) in-laws.  “They never allowed Renuka to stay in our native place. She had told me that her in-laws fight with her even for petty issues,” she said.

Police said that Kumar had borrowed Rs 35 lakh from various sources for purchasing properties and Renuka was upset since he was facing financial crisis due to the loans.
