Bosch to offer electrified solutions for Indian market

Global supplier of technology and services, Bosch, on Friday said it is ready to offer its portfolio of electrified solutions for the Indian market, and that it plans to move into first series production after 2018.

Bosch India will be offering its local customers the complete value chain of offerings with respect to electromobility, and it has developed an integrated electrification system including motor, control unit, battery, charger, display, and app that can power light two-, three-and four-wheel electric vehicles.

Talking about the company’s electromobility plans for India, Peter Tyroller, Member, Bosch Board of Management, said, “Small vehicle segments will drive the transition to mass electrificiation, as urban dwellers seek a simple and affordable alternative to conventional standards.”

Despite the focus on electromobility, as a long-term alternative, the internal combustion engine will still play a major role in the near future. The powertrain of the future will be a mix of electromobility and combustion engines, he added.

On electric two-wheelers, Tyroller pointed out a study that says around 1.2 million electric two-wheelers are set to hit the local market by 2020, and that hassle-free riding and comfort, among others, will create market pull.

“Today, the supplier base for electromobility solutions in India is fragmented, and with the powertrain solutions, we are aiming to bridge this gap and have a first mover advantage,” he said, adding that shared mobility and two-wheelers show potential for electromobility in India.

Also talking about localisation, he said, they would increase localisation once the volumes go up.

“The future of mobility in India is shared, electric and connected, and we are committed to develop local solutions for electric mobility that suit the Indian market,” he told reporters.
