Last Updated 03 September 2017, 20:37 IST

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bengaluru and south interior Karnataka for the next two days.

Sunder M Metri, IMD-Bengaluru director-in-charge, said that there are two systems under the influence of which the city, south, north and coastal Karnataka will receive moderate to very heavy rainfall. He said there is a trough of low pressure running from south Maharashtra towards north interior Karnataka, and another from Rayalseema towards south Tamil Nadu.

Under the influence of these systems, scattered rainfall coupled with thundershowers is forecast over coastal and north interior Karnataka. Metri said that normally parts of south interior Karnataka experience heavy rainfall during September and October, when southwest monsoon is retrieving and northeast monsoon is setting in.

The city received 0.6 mm rainfall up to 8.30 pm on Sunday, while the Kempegowda International Airport also recorded 0.6 mm. But the other parts of the city on Sunday afternoon experienced heavy downpour.

The city has, from June 1 (the onset of monsoon) till September 3, received 563 mm rainfall, which is 211 mm above normal.
