BJP will not contest mayoral poll: Ashoka

Senior BJP leader R Ashoka on Tuesday said that his party will not contest the Bengaluru mayor election scheduled for September 28.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Ashoka said the BJP had made efforts to get the post last year, but had to face a “bitter experience”.

“We believe that the unholy alliance between the Congress and the JD(S) will collapse on its own. If the eight Congress and JD(S) MLCs who voted in the mayoral election last year by providing false information are disqualified, then the BJP can get the mayor’s post on its own,” the Padmanabhanagar MLA said.
